JODELLE FERLAND
SO WHAT IS YOUR FULL NAME AND YOUR NICKNAMES?
"My full name is Alessandra Marta de Costa. The only thing I prefer to be called is Alex, and nothing else. Few people can call me Alessandra without me getting angry with them."
WHEN IS YOUR BIRTHDAY?
"The date of my birth lands on the fifth of March."
DO YOU HAVE ANY LIKES AND HATES?
"My favorite thing to do is read. When I get tired of this world, I can simply choose a new one to be in. When I can't find a world I like in books, I simply write my own. Of course, I can do other things too. I'm good at drawing and painting. I also like to be around my family as much as possible, without having to see anything or hear anything to do with my father's gang.
The one thing I hate more than anything else is my father's mob. I try to stay out of it, but with one of my favorite things being my family, it's hard not to see and hear things that are centered around it. I don't really like my mother, because I believe her reasons for leaving my father and I were selfish, and not noble at all. I don't like being completely alone. I guess you could say it's a fear of mine. As long as someone is in the same house/building as I am, I'm fine. I don't like guns. I don't like to see them, hear them, or hear about them. I'll even turn off the TV if I see a gun. I believe because of this lifestyle, it's grown to be a full fear. Lastly, I don't like water. Of course, I can bathe and wash my hands/face, but when it comes to pools or oceans, the sight of it makes me a little light headed with stress, though I don't know why."
DO YOU HAVE ANY SECRETS YOU CAN DIVULGE?
"I know all about my father's mob. I know that he's not really a Pawn Shop owner, and I know that he's really good at lying, in the example of the police, and his name/occupation. I'm not going to tell anyone any of this, even the rest of my family, who I also know knows all of this, and probably a lot more. I just know more than they think I do."
WHO DO YOU WORK FOR?
"I go to school, and therefore, work for no one. Though being a doctor sounds interesting. Or maybe an artist?"
WHAT'S YOUR MARITAL STATUS?
"As I am only ten years old, it would be obvious to say that I am indeed single, and am not planning to change that for a long while."
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR FAMILY.
"My father is Carlisle de Costa. Although he pretends he's just a rich Pawn Shop worker, he's actually the Boss of a Mob. I don't get to be around him too often, so I don't really know all that much about him. He does love his family though.
My 'mother', if you wish to call her that, was Amy. I don't know what her last name was before she married my father, but I don't wish to know, either. She left us when I was only a baby, and never looked back. My only question is, what kind of mother could do such a thing?
My half brother is Michael Claudio de Costa. I don't know much about him either, but I do know that he is in the Mob Business with my father, doing rather... menial jobs.
My father also has two sister's and a brother that help make up our family. Once again, I don't know too much about them. After completing this question, I realize.... I don't know about a lot of my family. But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy them being around when they can be around, correct?"
WHERE DO YOU COME FROM?
"I was born, abandoned, and raised in Los Vegas, Nevada."
OK NOW IF YOU ARE IMPORTANT PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR HISTORY?
"Calm – Alex is a rather calm little girl. You won't see her jumping up and down in excitement, but rather giving a radiant smile, and expressing her happiness through articulate words. Her expressions don't show fully because of this, but it also helps her hide what she doesn't want to be seen.
Well Mannered – Outbursts, curses, and word vomit won't be heard coming from this girls mouth. She keeps herself calm at all times, and says things in a well spoken manor, rather than saying whatever comes into her head. While she doesn't always say 'yes sir' and 'no sir', you won't hear an ounce of disrespect in her voice, unless you've given her a reason to, and have kept it up since then.
Day Dreamer– When Alex gets tired of her own world, she disappears into another. Be it through books, writing, or some form of art, she escapes as quickly as possible. She swore never to use things like drugs or anger to get out of the world, and never will.
Innocent – Though she knows of things like death, abandonment, drugs, guns, and mobs, Alex managed to hang on to her innocence. Comments that are perverted, or mean a certain thing that younger people aren't supposed to understand, go right over her head and she'll always ask for an explanation. Her mind is never in the gutter.
Intelligence – Even though certain things go over her head, she isn't stupid. She makes excellent grades in school, and she has a certain clever charm about her that shows everyone that she's smarter than some, if not most people her age.
Loneliness– Alex won't admit it, but when someone isn't around, she tends to get a little lonely. Of course, this can be expected from a ten year old, but she hides it well. This is one of the things that she won't let be seen by her family, for fear that they might start to worry for her.
Anger– Though she doesn't let it out on anyone, she has a lot of pent up anger toward a few people. Toward her mother, for leaving her and her father and never once sending a letter, or a phone call. Toward her father, for being a Mob Boss, and being in the Drug business and things to where they do end up having guns. And simply, toward the world. for not having the common sense to not do things like drugs, murder, suicide, etc.
Push-over– In the end, Alex ends up being a push-over. She's not going to say no, within reason, even if she's getting too many people drinks, or having to run from one house to the other, for whatever reason. Be it that she's afraid of you, or she doesn't want to let you down, she's a total push-over.
Over-thinking – Alex tends to over think the simplest of things, causing her to get lost in a rather simple conversation. She tries to turn things into what they aren't. So what doesn't go over her head, she might end up thinking you mean something totally different.
From what she understands, the first woman her father married was her half-brother’s mother at the age of seventeen. When that woman was killed (with a gun, no less), he fell in love with Alex’s mother, Amy, and they ended up getting married not even a year after her half-brother’s mother was killed. However, after Alex was born, her mother decided she didn’t want to be involved with her father, the Boss of a Mob, and left Alex and her father.
Kindergarten and first grade were the years that she spent wondering why she didn’t have a mom. Almost every kid at school had one that came and picked them up, made their lunch, and came in with cupcakes or cookies for their birthday. All she had was a few maids at home, and whatever girlfriend her father had at that particular moment, and she grew bitter over it, and stopped socializing during play time at school, keeping to herself most of the time. Of course, her teachers had to get involved, because they were ‘worried’ about her, and finally, Alex was hit with the truth. Her mother abandoned her.
In second grade, she began to socialize a lot more, and her bitterness was turned to her mother. It was then that she decided that she didn’t just dislike her. She hated the woman that gave birth to her. She left Alex; she left her father, and her reason? She didn’t want to be involved with her father, and that was that. Alex couldn’t help think that her mother was a selfish woman, who didn’t care for anyone but herself. Since then, she never once wanted a call, a letter, or to even know her mother’s maiden last name.
In third grade, Alex started debating how logical a rich Pawn Shop owner was, and why the police believed her father was called something else. It was then that she started noticing a lot more than a third grader should, just by keeping her eyes out around the house. By this, she discovered several things. Her father actually ran a Mob, and they were involved in the drug trade happening around Los Vegas. Also, they were in a dangerous enough situations that they had to have guns, which was something that, the more she thought of it, scared her.
In fourth grade, she began to slowly get over it, knowing that whatever it was, her father could weasel his way out of a lot of things, and her family would be fine. Of course, that fear of guns still struck on her heart, and she started tuning out things that even suggested/mentioned the word guns, including not listening to speakers that came into class, and turning off whatever she was watching to do something more productive.
Now, in fifth grade, she stopped watching TV all together, and went to the nurse when they were going to talk about things happening around Los Vegas that they ‘shouldn’t get into’. She couldn’t help but think how ironic it was. Of course, the other kids had a choice, but she was born into one of the Mob’s around Los Vegas, and she caught onto things that she ‘shouldn’t get into’ everyday at home. But she didn’t really care anymore. It was her life, and she was going to live it. It wasn’t like she was part of the Mob, and she would refuse to ever become a part of something she labeled as ‘dangerous’.
"
SO WHAT ABOUT THE PUPPETEER?
"Her name is Raven. She's a female and lives in the US, in the time zone of EST. She's seventeen and has had seven years of roleplaying, and six years on proboards."
NOW DOES YOUR PUPPETEER HAVE ALL THE SKILLS?
"“Look, if you’re going to kill him, take this.” The man hands a younger male a gun. “A-a gun?!? Wait… this is getting a little out of hand-“
CLICK.
“I’ll say.” The young girl said. This was why she didn’t watch TV anymore. Lately there was a lot of violence and realism, which was what she was trying to get away in the first place. Having most of your family running a Mob isn’t exactly normal, so who could blame her for looking for productive ways of trying to get away from it all, like reading, writing, or drawing? It was certainly better than drugs.
Now that she thought about it, if she really wanted to, there were plenty of stupid sellers that would have no qualms selling to a ten year old girl. Of course, she wouldn’t even attempt it, but it was still sad that it was possible, and that the option was even open. In her opinion, it shouldn’t be open for anyone. But that was the real way her father got money, and nothing she or anyone else would sway him from running the Mob.
She didn’t make a lot of friends, and she didn’t want to end up exposing anyone to this kind of thing either, so for the most part, she was alone. She hated it, but she could live with it, even if it did cause the same symptoms of a phobia. Was there even such a phobia, or was this all illogical, and she was over thinking things again?
It had to be the latter. She wasn’t quite messed up enough to have a full phobia at ten years old. It was ridiculous, and probably not even possible. If she understood, a phobia was an extreme fear in something, and the only way to have one was by having a doctor confirm it. Though that term ‘doctor’ was a little…. Odd. Couldn’t they say Therapist? Or was it really the symptoms that they had to look for, resulting in an actual doctor? Or was it possibly a combination of the two? All of this thinking was just confusing her. She would just go and make something to eat.
“The days are endless, the nights are countless, and each time I find myself in pieces. The fight to be this, or the struggle to be that, which will win out? Can I take a step without creating doubt in my mind, or am I destined a role that I can’t find? Is there something out there better, or is this what I’m subjected to, shocking in manner? Can I decide, or am I unable, is there a life, or is this a fable? I am unsure, and afraid to move on, yet I have the urge to find something better beyond.”
Alex recited the poem by memory as she simply grabbed a pear to eat, not actually all that hungry. It wasn’t something that she thought about anymore. It was just something she said when she had nothing else to do. It was a habit that she was either unwilling or unable to get rid of, and quite honestly, she couldn’t tell which it was anymore.
Finishing the pear and throwing away the core, she sat down in the main room and began reading. This time she would escape to Treasure Island, a world not too different from her own, with treacherous people hiding behind ever corner."
